She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Forrest “Al” Wheeler, Sr.; parents, James and Carmella Cuomo; siblings, Mary, Lena, Millie, Dorothy, and Dominick; and son, John James Wheeler. Survived by loving family, son, Forrest Albert (Carol) Wheeler, Jr.; daughters, Frances (Thomas) Sundquist, Dorothy Bassett and Kathleen (Jude) Grondin; grandchildren, Dan (Kristel) Wheeler, Miki (Adam) Riffle, Lynne, Matt, Valerie (Aron) Jackson, Michael (Jenn) Sundquist, Thomas Sundquist, Jr., John (Miranda) Sundquist, Corrine Wheeler, Sherrie Bassett Jordan, Joshua (Lauren) Grondin, Jared (Melissa) Grondin, and Jeremy (Amy) Grondin; great grandchildren, Jackson, Caleb, Lucas, Robert, Dominique, D’Angelo, Michael Jr., Christian, Austin, David, Chelsey, and Jacob; and many very special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Jo worked for Oneida Community Action in upstate New York prior to moving to Florida. She arranged assistance for low income families. She organized health care clinics in rural areas. Doctors, nurses, dentists, and volunteers would offer their time and services for families that couldn’t afford health care. She worked hard to organize the Memorial Day Parade in Vernon Center for many years. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at the Maple Park Home in Vernon Center, NY. After moving to Florida, Jo was employed by John Milton Nursing home in Kissimmee, Florida until her retirement. She was born to be a caregiver.
Jo was always there for her family, friends, and anyone in need. She enjoyed playing cards, shuffleboard, swimming, being outside, planting flowers, and, most of all, cooking the greatest meatballs and sausage for her family! I know she passed her recipe on to all of us!
She will be missed by all that knew her.
